Everyday Web Notes

Clear answers to small questions about the everyday internet.

Why a page can work on Wi-Fi but not mobile data

The two connections may use different DNS resolvers, routes and filtering. Testing each layer separately avoids blaming the browser too early.

What a certificate warning means

A certificate ties a site name to a cryptographic identity. A warning can indicate a wrong clock, an intercepted connection or a server serving the wrong name.

Private browsing is not invisibility

It mainly prevents local history and cookies from remaining after the window closes. Networks and visited services still see ordinary connection data.

Refresh and reload are not always the same

Browsers cache documents and assets differently. A normal reload may reuse files while a full reload asks the server for fresh copies.
